Armagh win Charity Zone events

The annual charity matches between Armagh and West Down took place on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 September. Armagh were successful in both, winning the Ivan Marshall and Michael Catney Memorial Cups.

The ladies match took place in 2nd Dromara. In the first half Daphne Marshall's rink played A. Cannaway, Flo McNally played P. Hayes, and Rachel Cassells played B. Conlon. Things were tight up until the last couple of ends but Armagh finished strongly, including a count of 7 on Flo's last end, to lead by 17 at the break.

The second half saw Lisa Douglas up against P. Martin, Leslie Strain playing B. Hanratty and Pauline Beattie against A. Polin. West Down had slightly better of the 2nd half and managed to cut the deficit by 4, but in the end it was comfortable win for Armagh.

The men's game took place at Dromore BC. In the first half, Jal Richardson played Gavin Clinghan, Terry Mulholland played Billy Martin and Nigel Uprichard played Stuart McCartney. Armagh were on top for most of the half, but the home side finished strongly to tie things up at the break.

In the second half Danny McDonald had a close tussle with George Crothers going down by 2, while Cecil Dillon came from 9-2 down to beat Richard Martin 15-12. Joe Beattie was always in control of his game against DJ Wilson and won by 6 meaning Armagh won by 7 overall. Rink scores were as follows:

In both games, due to late withdrawls, a few Armagh players had to play in both halves. We would like to thank West Down for accomodating this.
