Juniors runners-up in Interzone

Congratulations to Armagh Zone Juniors who finished runners-up in today's Interzone event in Shaws Bridge. Armagh were in a group of 5 along with Monaghan, Mid Tyrone, Oriel and West Down. They started off well with a comfortable win against Oriel winning 2 of the 3 rinks. They then went up against a strong Monaghan side. Things didn't go according to plan in this one with Monaghan winning but the 1 point gained for winning 1 rink would prove valuable later on.

Armagh bounced back with a great win against Mid Tyrone winning all 3 rinks. This meant that they needed to beat West Down in the last group game and win on at least 2 of the 3 rinks to top the group and qualify for the final. This game went down to the last bowl. David Carcer's rink had won 6-3 and Nathan Minish's rink had lost 6-4. Devon Wallace was playing his last end all square meaning he had to secure at least one shot to win his rink and the match. The West Down skip fired with his last bowl but Armagh scored 2 to win the match and set up a final against North West.

In the final Armagh kept up with their more experienced opponents for over half the game but the defending champions finished strongly to win the title for the 5th year in a row. Despite this defeat Armagh can be proud of their performance today.
