Charity Zone Matches

The annual Charity Zone games took place today in Annaghmore Church Hall. Armagh ladies & men’s teams welcomed Monaghan for the first time to this years event. The ladies played for the Ivan Marshall Memorial cup and the men played for the Michael Catney Memorial cup. Armagh Ladies proved too strong on the day and came away with a comfortable 33 shot win. Ladies Results: Pauline Beattie 13-5 B Comiskey Irene Douglas 11-10 B Stewart Flo McNally 12-7 B Smyth Elizabeth Smyth 13-4 L Carlton Diane Agnew 11-5 C McKenna Daphne Marshall 11-7 A Rutledge The men’s game however was a much tighter affair. In the first half on mat 1 Danny McDonald drew 9-9 with P McElveny. Mat 3 saw Alan Paul draw 8-8 with M og Trainor. Monaghan however came away with a big win on mat 2 with C Derring beating Terry Mulholland 19-6 giving Monaghan a 13 shot advantage. Armagh made a great attempt to fight back in the second half but Monaghan held on to win by 2 shots overall. Joseph Beattie 12-4 S Magennis Cecil Dillon 9-5 G Moen Andrew Leckey 9-10 B og Magennis As always in these events the charities were the real winners. Monaghan raised over £900 for their charity and Armagh raised £1380 to be split between Southern Area Hospice and Marie Curie charities. A special thanks also to Annaghmore Church for the use of their hall and also to John Frizzell and his helpers for putting down the mats and helping out with the teas, it was greatly appreciated.
